Vice President, Research Administration

Overview

Emory University welcomes applications and nominations for the position of Vice President, Research Administration (VPRA). The VPRA will join a key leadership team charged with supporting Emory's rapid ascent to a top-tier research institution and health system. Over the past 10 years, external research funding at Emory has increased nearly 52 percent to $734 million in 2018. Continuing this trajectory requires a robust, well-honed, and service-oriented administrative infrastructure.

The VPRA will promote Emory's research growth through oversight and execution of a strategic direction and effective operations for research enterprise wide. The VPRA oversees the Office of Research Administration (ORA) which includes eleven units. The VPRA will work in tandem with senior leaders and faculty to ensure proactive, user-focused customer service; effective, metric-driven processes; transparent communication; and compliance with all regulatory requirements. To that end, the VPRA will foster the scholarly work of faculty, facilitate multidisciplinary initiatives, support innovative technology-transfer and commercialization programs, strive to increase funding support, and nurture positive external relationships.

Emory seeks in its next VPRA a leader with vision, creativity, and a roll-your-sleeves-up mentality who has collaboratively led research programs across diverse constituencies. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record in supporting research programs, strategic planning, operational development and execution, and maintaining regulatory-compliant programs in academic medicine, academia, industry, or government. A proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, is essential. An undergraduate degree, preferably in science or a related field, is required, while preference will be given to those with a PhD.
