Research Administration Manager, UNLV Office of Sponsored Programs

Overview

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Research Administration Manager, Office of Sponsored Programs [R0113838]. This position will have the primary function of providing cradle to grave operations management for the Office of Sponsored Programs. There will be multiple teams in the Office of Sponsored Programs, and the Research Administration Manager will coordinate training efforts and maintain weekly workload discussions. This position will provide leadership to the research administrators, financial research administrators, and grants analysts within their team and will manage a team of six or more staff. The Research Administration Manager is part of the management team under the direction of the Executive Director of OSP. 

This position is responsible for all areas of research administration, including both pre- and post-award functions. The Research Administration Manager is expected to provide training to their team to fully integrate cradle to grave administration throughout the life of awarded sponsored projects. The team will administer over 400+ awarded projects per year. In this role, the incumbent will meet with faculty and staff to provide the following services:

  • Develop modules that will be implemented monthly to quarterly that will focus on compliance and topical areas, 
  • Develop trainings for the team to fully integrate with sponsor submission portals and unify best practices,
  • Develop policies for campus integration for research and other sponsored programs,
  • Assist in troubleshooting with Workday implementation,
  • Provide creative, strategic leadership in cradle to grave administration of research grants and/or contracts and expertly balance customer service and compliance needs,
  • Ensure that proposed projects meet goals of department and that necessary resources are available,
  • Manage and follow through on high-risk situations,
  • Create procedures regarding day-to-day administrative & financial functions,
  • Oversee & manage all research portfolio fiscal activities, from research development to close-out activities, continually evaluating & recommending alternatives to minimize risk while maximizing goals,
  • Resolve issues with collaborators and/or other involved parties,
  • Mentor other administrative staff in research administration.
