The Sponsored Research Coordinator, Federal Team, Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) under the general direction of the Assistant Director, Federal Team, OSR, assists the teams that provide comprehensive central support for pre-award and non-accounting post award functions and services related to the administration of sponsored projects at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch). As a part of the Federal OSR team, the Sponsored Research Coordinator provides and maintains a high level of service to and partnership with the Fred Hutch research community.

Responsibilities
  • Provide general day-to-day operational support associated with activities related to incoming Federally sponsored grants and cooperative agreements.
  • Prepare Budget Allocation Request (BAR) Forms for activation and modification of awards in Financial Management System, including, but not limited to restricted funding.
  • Process Restricted Donation Awards (NDO’s).
  • Within delegated authorities, exercises independent judgment in reviewing proposals, including, but not limited to a limited pool of non-competing subaward applications submitted by Fred Hutch staff for restricted funding.
  • Manage monthly internal reporting and tracking processes, including, but not limited to the Pre-Expiration list process, and the Active without Award process, to ensure timely processing of activities.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of tools to track monthly reports for management.
  • May serve as primary contact on a limited portfolio assignment.
  • Serve as a resource for interpreting, explaining and applying Fred Hutch and sponsor policies, as well as applicable regulations related to research administration issues.
  • Assist in resolving pre- and post-award issues related to sponsored projects.
  • Advise Fred Hutch personnel and team leadership of critical and/or sensitive issues related to sponsored projects administration.
  • May represent OSR at institution-wide meetings and teleconferences, and attend professional meetings and conferences of research administration societies and associations, as applicable.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Demonstrated ability to function successfully as an effective part of a collaborative team environment in a complex organization.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to write and format professional correspondence and reports.
  • Demonstrated computer skills using Microsoft Office, including heavy use of Excel and Outlook, as well as use of Word and PowerPoint.
Preferred:
  • Ability to analyze complex information using logic and reasoning to define problems and formulate logical and objective conclusions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to balance tact, diplomacy and assertiveness.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships among a diverse constituency.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy, productivity and consistency.
  • Excellent communication skills sufficient to present and explain complex concepts, practices, policies, guidelines and procedures and their underlying principles.
  • Ability to work in a changing environment, possesses strong analytic/assessment skills, possess excellent organizational skills and be able to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in research administration or equivalent translatable skills from related industry and/or knowledge of awards from federal agencies, especially NIH.
  • Experience or exposure to the use of Oracle or PeopleSoft financial systems and/or research administration products such as Huron Click, Research Ed or Cayuse
